Hello everybody,

I already know some of you, but for those who I haven't met before, I am Laia, and I am working in Esplai Foundation, in Barcelona. My main task here is to be the Content Facilitator of this ning, and I am really interested in it.

I am really looking forward to get more and more involved and know deeply this network, and of course, I wish I have the chance of meeting you all soon, in a face to face meeting.

Well, let's keep in touch...
Best wishes!!!

Hi Gabi, nice to meet you!
We followed your presentation in Wienna, great job!
So, Gabi and Laurentiu, as we are very close to each other, we probably meet some time in the near future.

Gabi Barna Comment by Gabi Barna on October 30, 2008 at 10:40am
Hi all,

My name is Gabi Barna and I work for an NGo in Romania called EOS-Educating for an Open Society. I am 33 years old, two little kids and live in Timisoara (pretty close to the Hungarian border).

I have set up EOS nearly 10 years ago, and it has grown a lot since then. We now have 12 full time employees and 23 part time consultants. Our main focus is using ICt to enhance people's lives.

I got involved with Telecentre.Europe at the very beginning in June 2007 when many of us met in Barcelona. I joined the Steering Committee in September the same year. And continued through until Riga, when one of our colleagues in the Steering Committee had to step down because of his appointment in a high government position. So this is how I became the Co-Chair of Telecentre.Europe. I am now sharing this with ian Clifford from the UK.

Guys, I am really pleased to be here. I think it is a great place to quickly scan through who is who and what is going on.

Looking forward to many interesting discussions and cybermeetings.

Gabi

Lize and Klara,

Thank you for breaking the ice!

Following Klara’s story, here’s mine…

I am Laurentiu – Romanian.
I come from the heart of the Transylvanian Alps (Romanian Carpathians) well known for their wildness, but especially because of a legend called Dracula! Even if Dracula is not amongst us today (at least I hope not), the Romanian governments were scared to invest too much in my region called Jiu Valley. This is how it ended up having a series of social and economic problems and challenges.
In this context I got involved after finishing high school in the first local NGO started in our region (year of 2000). I have volunteered for 5 years in a lot of community development projects and learned a lot. Simultaneously, I’ve studied business marketing and management at the local university.
In 2005 I’ve started my own NGO, and met Gabi from Foundation EOS that was running a telecentre network. A telecentre was born and is alive since then, having a great impact in our community.
In 2008, after assisting Foundation EOS in developing and enlarging the telecentre network, I got involved in Telecentre Europe through an event organized in Riga, Latvia, where I met the most of you. That momentum had encouraged me to become more involved, and that happened in September. Now I am part of Telecentre Europe staff and I hope that my involvement would benefit both the network and its members.

Dear Telecentre Europe member-mates, we are expecting you at the meeting place to share your stories; coffee is free, and the atmosphere is really cool! ;)
