Vision
To provide the next 292m  Europeans with the information skills, motivation and access that they need to benefit from, and contribute to, the knowledge economy.

What is telecentre-europe?
telecentre-europe is an inclusive and vibrant network that increases the impact and effectiveness of telecentres throughout Europe by fostering knowledge sharing and learning amongst its members.

What is a telecentre?
A telecentre is a publicly accessible place where people can get help to access computers, the internet and other digital technologies that enable them to gather information, create, learn, and communicate with others. In doing so they develop essential 21st-century digital skills to enable them to find better employment opportunities, to participate meaningfully into society or to improve and transform their lives. Typically they are located in public libraries, education centres and voluntary or community organisations.

How will we achieve our vision?
By working with telecentre networks and development partners in every European country by 2010.

Outcomes of the network
•    Addresses the themes of eInclusion, aging population, accessibility and integration.
•    Demonstrates measurable social impact across the European region.
•    Contributes explicitly to European Commission and global development agencies’ social policy areas, e.g. Lisbon agenda, i2010, Riga declaration, Millennium Development Goals.
•    Stimulates knowledge sharing, capacity for impact, and sustainability among telecentres across Europe.

The European network of telecentres
The European members of the
telecentre-europe online community currently represent at least 30 national or regional networks across Europe. We estimate that the European region contains more than 100,000 telecentres. These telecentres would employ well in excess of 250,000 staff and at least a further 100,000 volunteers. Averaged usage figures would indicate that these telecentres will work directly with at least 25 million digitally excluded citizens per year across the European region.
