Call For Papers : eAsia 2009


Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies (CSDMS), India and Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), Sri Lanka have joined hands to organise 4th annual eASiA 2009 conference and exhibition in Colombo, Sri Lanka to celebrate the year 2009 as the year of ICT and English as declared by HE Mahinda Rajapaksa, President, Sri Lanka and to promote growth of ICT4D, through consultative dialoguing, strategic planning, knowledge networking and business partnering.

eAsia 2009, is the annual international Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for development event that provides opportunity for all stakeholders in the ICT arena to come closer and share a level-playing ground through active conferencing and networking. Spanning over three days, the event will comprise unique thematically inter-related conferences, in the domains of e-Governance, Digital Learning, e-Health and Telecentres, Emerging e-Technologies. The five tracks of eASIA2009 are:

* Emerging e-Technologies

Guidelines for Abstract and Paper Submission

People sending their abstracts/ full paper through email are requested to strictly follow the guidelines given below. Incomplete papers will not be accepted.

Format

File format – Word Document or PDF
Font style – Arial or Times New Roman in single column format
Font size- 12 for paper
Font size- 14 for the title and authors
Line spacing -1.5 lines
Margins-One inch (2.5cm) at the top, bottom and sides of the page


Abstract and Full Paper

Word limit for abstract should be around 500 words. Include the paper title and authors details as follows (contact details will be given in the conference programme)

Paper Title: The title of the paper should not exceed 8 words.

Word limit for final paper (excluding the abstract, tables, diagrams and references) should be between 2,000 and 3,000 words. Accuracy for all material supplied is the responsibility of the author.

Authors Bio and Image

Authors are requested to submit a brief bio (describing their areas of interest and their present work areas) of about 100 words along with the abstract and an image (high resolution preferably 300 dpi) of the author/s.

Figures and tables

Figures, tables and images should follow the references. Please make sure that every table or figure is referred to in the text. The table or figure will be placed after the first mention in the text. Legends should be short, descriptive and define any acronyms, abbreviations or symbols used.

Authors are requested to provide full color high-resolution images (preferably 300 dpi, jpeg image). The images should also be attached separately with the papers and properly referenced with the text.

References

References to published works must be cited in text according to the author/date system and listed alphabetically as a separate appendix titled 'References' at the end of the manuscript.

A general guideline for papers

The paper may be on accomplished research results, assessments of projects/work-in-progress or fresh concepts, preliminary research results. The paper should state clearly the objective of the project, motivation/need and context of the research/project, describe the methodology used, summarise key findings and state their importance to ICT in education.

Endnotes and footnotes should be kept to an absolute minimum. Substantive comments should be integrated within the text rather than placed in a note.

What we do as an organization (100-word description)
Gedaref Digital City Organization (GDCO) is a non-profitable NGO (Gedaref Sudan). It is the founder of the first digital city in Sudan (2005) and the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the Arab world (2008) It is the winner of information Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO) is NGOs (Gedaref Sudan). GDCO is the founder of the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the 13th in the world (Sudan national Telecentre academy SuNTA). GDCO is the winner of information for development award (i4d e-India 2007) also the winner of i4d 2008 awards for the best innovations at the grassroots Telecentre. Digital city of Eindhoven (DSE) donated 750 computers to GDCO it is the winner of i4d 2009 for the initiative of civil society for development… more than ten community development projects were established using ICT. It is part of the global Telecentre movement

Other services and activities:
1- e-health and Telemedicine
GDCO& DSE donated 51 computers to the project. More than 40 medical staff were trained a medical e-form was developed. A telemedicine unit (10X23 meter) was donated by national telecommunication corporation (NTC) and constructed in the hospital of Gedaref and manage by Gedaref university
2- e-education and bridging the digital divide
GDCO work very hard in bridging the digital divide, training and enhancing capacity building for the community. GDCO established more than 15 Telecentres in Gedaref and 3 Telecentre in Khartoum. GDCO trained the community for cost price. It trains the disabled for free. More than 3000 were trained. GDCO donated 120 computers to Gedaref university (faculty of IT and community college). Two units (3X 6 meters) as e-library with 15 computers were donated to the university. A telemedicine unit will be also used for training the students online. More than 300 disabled were trained (159 deaf and 140 physical disabled) and new project for training the blinds in Khartoum university will be established in partner with IDRC and ESCWA-UN. Training 120 teachers (free) as mangers and operators for school Telecentres established by NTC. GDCO established Sudan national Telecentre academy (SuNTA( as the first academy in Africa.

E-agriculture implementation
1- GDCO and DSE donated 15 computers to Gedaref mechanized agriculture corporation, 21 PCs to the farmers union ( 10 PCs to Gedaref mechanized farmer union, 6 PCs to Gedaref state union as farmers information centre, 5 PCs to gala alnahal farmer union) to establish training Telecentres and 3 rural Telecentres in Doka, Hawata and Fao .
2- GDCO trained 55 agricultural engineers and staff of Gedaref mechanized agriculture corporation the basic of the computers courses then 25 of them were trained more than 12 courses on computer and GIS and GPS courses.
3- software (program) for Gedaref mechanized Agriculture Corporation was developed and the information of 13.000 farmers was included in the system of mechanized agriculture corporation.
4 - Designing a web portal for the crops prices

5- a new partnership with Sudani (mobile operator and internet service provider) and EU and FAO through SIFSIA ( Sudan institute for food security information action) was established www.trade.net
6- Finally the agro-mobile e-service started designed in partnership with Drishtee organization will be developed . (We get the experience and information from Indian organizations and companies (e.g. TATA) at Grameen 5th convention. Drishtee started designing the mobile. the mobile will provide 6 e-services to the farmers, traders, companies or any one who need it. )
