What we do as an organization (100-word description)
PH International is a non-profit organization with 25 years of experience working with people, communities, governments, corporations, and proven tools to bring cultures together, encourage peer learning, and build strong communities. Its mission is to build a strong global community by fostering civic leadership, harnessing information technology, and facilitating cross-cultural learning.
The four key areas of our work are: community development, information technology, educational development, professional development.
My function in the organization
Your Course: Digital Literacy (Tvoy Kurs) Project Director
What ICT or e-Skill training programs does your organization offer?
Since 1996, PH International has been actively engaged in technology development and training programs. Whether working with schools or with community groups, PH incorporates the IT as an indispensable tool for creating and nurturing an informed, civil society. PH International has established and operates nearly 500 Internet access sites in Eurasia, and facilitates hundreds of online forums that support professional development, cross-cultural exchange, and innovative solutions to community challenges.

Your Course: Digital Literacy Project, launched in 2010, as a follow-on program of the Information Dissemination and Equal Access (IDEA) Project, provides training in basic and job-related computer skills and maintains the goal of increasing employability and marketability among underserved and disadvantaged populations in Russia. E-skills and the advantages technology knowledge provides in competing for jobs and work-place advancement are particularly valuable assets for those who want and need to improve their economic prospects in our increasingly knowledge-based economy.

The Project is implemented under Microsoft's Your Course initiative through the network of Сomputer Literacy centers throughout Russia launched in partnership with libraries, colleges and universities and non-profit organizations with the assistance of regional and municipal authorities.

Each center provides:
- e-skills trainings in the Microsoft Digital Literacy and Unlimited Potential Curricula;
- free Internet access;
- access to Digital Literacy Course;
- training in capacity-building themes, in order to give participants marketable skills and stimulate community participation.

Tvoy Kurs trained 100,000 people in 2011.

What other training services does your organization provides?
PH was a pioneer in the use of online learning, cultural exchange and internet as a tool for development and has conducted these programs since 1996, consistent with another core value: embracing technology and use of the internet to promote civic participation, cross-cultural learning and democracy. The effective use of social media for development was added to PH’s portfolio five years ago. Examples of PH programs with a focus on information technology include the Microsoft IDEAPrograms in Russia and Ukraine; the DOTCOM project in Armenia, Azerbaijan and the U.S.; and the MEDIA Exchange Program in Jordan and the U.S.

PH International’s school-based programs help students and educators to improve learning and network with their counterparts from opposite sides of the world to share common experiences and explore cultural diversity. Examples of PH educational development programs include more than a decade of teacher and school exchange programs; school-based
Legal Socialization Programs
in Armenia and Georgia; and the Intel Teach for the Future (iTeach) Programs in Russia and Kazakhstan.
Other services and activities:
PH International’s core values include the promotion of social change through offering individuals, their communities and their organizations the knowledge, relationships and skills they need to create a peaceful and prosperous future. Community Development programs have this value at their core. Examples of PH programs with a focus on community development include the Women’s Leadership Program in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia; the Youth Learning, Involving, Networking and X-change (LINX) program in Russia; and the Program to Combat Domestic Violence in Ukraine.

Professional exchange-based programs foster a mutual sharing of perspectives and experiences in a multicultural setting, whether in the US or abroad. One of the strongest assets PH brings to its programs is the wide-reaching breadth of its alumni network. Examples of PH programs with a focus on professional development include the Community Connections recruiting and hosting in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and the U.S.; the Law Enforcement Exchange Program (LEEP); and the Business for Russia program.
