What we do as an organization (100-word description)
The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has been mandated by the Government of Sri Lanka with the task of implementing the ICT Development Roadmap and the National Policy on Information Technology of the Government through the ‘e-Sri Lanka’ initiative in order to take the dividends of ICT to every village, to every citizen, to every business and to transform the functions of Government.

ICTA has been empowered by the Information Communication Technology Act No. 27 of 2003 to implement strategies and programs in both the Government and the private sector and to take all such steps as are necessary to facilitate the implementation of the National Policy on Information Technology and pursuant thereto the Nenasala Program (National Tele-centre Project) was conceived as one such initiative, with the aim of raising Internet penetration in areas within and outside Colombo.

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) says that registration for the premier ICT event in Asia – e-Asia 2009 -- has now commenced. (http://www.e-asia.org/2009/registration.asp)

Sri Lanka to chair UNESCAP’s ICT Committee

Secretary to the President H.E. the President of Sri Lanka Mr. Lalith Weeratunga has been unanimously elected by ESCAP to chair its Committee on Information and Communication Technology.

First-time participant ICTA bags Infotel award

The Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) bagged a unique award at the award ceremony held last Saturday at the BMICH at the conclusion of the Infotel exhibition.
