Igniting Change! - Telecentre-Europe summit, Oct 2009

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world:the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." George Bernard Shaw.
The "unreasonable" people behind the Telecentre-Europe network can feel extremely good about this summit that brought together key thought leaders from NGOs, public & corporate sector as well as the European Commission around the challenges of broadening the information society to almost 300 million Europeans excluded today. The motivation to ignite change through NGOs, community organisations and other partnerships was palpable. Together they tackled fundamental themes & barriers that determine e-inclusion and the success of NGOs working in this area: employability, accessibility, capacity building and sustainability. Several NGOs presented initiatives on these topics already running successfully around Europe that will now likely grow to other countries.
Clearly, Telecentre-Europe network with 70 member organisations in 52 countries, has come a long way in 2 years and has visibly established itself as a critical voice for driving change on e-inclusion and inclusive innovation in Europe at local & national level. Congratulations to the steering committee for a very professional and relevant summit.
