The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) says that registration for the premier ICT event in Asia – e-Asia 2009 -- has now commenced. (http://www.e-asia.org/2009/registration.asp)
The e-Asia 2009 conference and exhibition will take place at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall from 2nd to 4th next month.
Representatives from 24 countries are scheduled to participate in the conference. ICTA Chairman and Senior Advisor to the President Professor P. W. Epasinghe says that by now more than 200 papers from all over the world relating to new models in the information and communication technology sector have been lined up to be presented at the conference.
The e-Asia 2009 conference will be held under five thematic sectors such as e-Government, Digital Learning, e-Health, Telecentre Forum and Emerging Technologies.
e-Asia 2009 Technical Committee Chairman Professor Wijeya Kumar said that a large number of persons would participate at the conference and technical committee meetings. Several pioneers in information technology in the world are scheduled to participate in the Colombo conference.
e-Asia 2009 Co-Chairman and Additional Secretary to the President Dr. I. H. K. Mahanama points out that now Sri Lankans too have an opportunity to participate in e-Asia 2009. In particular personnel in the Public Sector who are interested in Information Technology could participate in e-Asia 2009 paying a subsidised fee. Similarly a similar policy will be followed with regard to university students, the additional secretary to the President said.
Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to be exposed to the exhibition stalls of institutions from several countries. New IT creations and services will be among these exhibits. ICTA Chief Operating Officer Reshan Dewapura said that now local IT companies too could obtain exhibition stalls.
